World Autism Acceptance Week 2024
When is World Autism Acceptance Week 2024?
World Autism Acceptance Week takes place from Tuesday 2 April (recognised as World Autism Awareness Day) and ends on Monday 8 April.
I want to take part, but I can't do my fundraiser in the week of World Autism Acceptance Week. Can I still take part?
Of course! Please make sure you still register. Please let us know if your activity will take place after 30 April so we can support you. Email: fundraising@nas.org.uk
I want to do my own thing, rather than a Spectrum Colour Walk. Is that okay?
Of course! Please register on our Fundraise your way page here.
Will you be having Spectrum Night Walks this year?
After eight years and lots of feedback, we knew the night-time element could be a challenge for autistic attendees. With Spectrum Colour Walks, we can stay true to the original event but be more inclusive.
How can I donate?
If you aren't fundraising as part of World Autism Acceptance Week 2024 but would like to make a donation, you can do so on the National Autistic Society website.
What is the World Autism Acceptance Week Fundraising Facebook group?
The Facebook group for all participants will provide instant updates about the week. We encourage all participants to join the group if they use the platform. This is for fundraising support only.
How can I get my group, workplace or school involved?
You can register for any of our activities in the same way as an individual here.
Where can I get school resources?
We are working with the Autism Education Trust (AET) to provide a range of suitable school resources. You will be able to register your interest for these resources by visiting the AET website from 19 January 2024.
I need some support with what to do for my fundraiser. Can you help?
Please check out our resources page where you can find lots of materials and colourful ideas to support your fundraising. If you are still struggling, please get in touch fundraising@nas.org.uk.
How do I receive donations?
If it's your first time fundraising, asking for donations can be daunting. But don't be scared, friends and family want to support you!
Tell them what you are doing and why. If you have a personal connection to autism and feel comfortable to share your story, this will resonate with others.
You don't need to use another website to collect donations as when you signed up, an online fundraising page was created for you!
I would like to collect offline donations, can you send me a sponsorship form?
You can download a sponsorship form here.
How do I pay in funds raised offline?
You can download our sponsorship form here.
Cheques should be made payable to ‘National Autistic Society’ and sent to 393 City Road, London, EC1V 1NG.

Where does my money go?
We're here to help the 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families. Be it running specialist schools, campaigning for improved rights or training companies on being more autism friendly, we are dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes. Thanks to your commitment to raise vital funds, you are supporting us to create a society that works for autistic people and their families. You can read more about the areas of our work your funds could support here.
£15 could provide a safe virtual space for an autistic person through our online community.
Our online community is a place for autistic people and their families to meet like-minded people and share their experiences. Your donation could help support the moderators who run our online community.
£100 could help autistic young people thrive in school by funding our campaigning work for better autism training in education.
Our Policy, Campaigns and Research Teams work tirelessly to ensure the voices of autistic people are front and centre. Together, we bring about change for autistic people and their families.
£500 could ensure crucial diagnosis advice and guidance is available for the 150,000 people waiting for an autism assessment.
We have the largest autism-specific website in the world, that provides advice and guidance to thousands of users every year.
£1,000 could help an autistic person find meaningful work and keep it through our employment support programmes.
Our employment teams work directly with autistic jobseekers to ensure they are ready to thrive when entering the workplace. They also support employers too, ensuring they understand how best to support their autistic employees.
Spectrum Colour Walks
What date and time do the walks start?
The walks take place on Saturday 6 April. The walks begin at 2pm and registration opens at 12.30pm. Please note registration closes at 1.30pm so we can start the walk promptly. The timings are the same for all three venues.
Where will the Spectrum Colour Walks take place?
London: Bandstand, Battersea Park, London SW11 4NJ
Leeds: Temple Newsom House and Tea Rooms, Temple Newsam Rd, Leeds LS15 0AE
Birmingham: West Bromwich Bandstand, Dartmouth Park, Lloyd Street, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B71 4AS
How much does it cost to take part?
£15 for adults and £10 for children under 18. Children under 18 months are free but need to be registered. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian or adult. There must be at least one supervising adult to two children. We also offer 20% discount for families of four (two adults, two children).
When is the closing date for Spectrum Colour Walks registrations?
The closing date for registrations is Friday 22 March.
Will I get a T-shirt and a medal?
Yes, T-shirts will be posted once you’ve registered. Your medal and certificate will be given to you after you have completed your walk.
Does my carer have to pay?
No, your carer does not need to pay or commit to raising the £100 minimum sponsorship. They don’t need to register either, but please email fundraising@nas.org.uk to let us know your carer will be accompanying you.
Is there a minimum fundraising requirement?
We ask you to commit to raising £100 per participant. This is to ensure the event costs are covered, whilst raising vital funds to support our work, such as our support services and groundbreaking campaigns. However, we are aware that families may find it hard to raise the minimum sponsorship, so we suggest you raise a minimum of £250 as a family. If you feel you can do more, then be ambitious and set your own personal target. If you are struggling with your fundraising, please contact us at fundraising@nas.org.uk.
What happens if I’m unable to hit the fundraising target?
We invest in all our events with fundraising targets in place so that we can continue to support autistic people and their families across the UK. Please consider taking part in the Do Your Own Spectrum Colour Walk if you feel unable to pledge to raise £100. If you are struggling with your fundraising, please contact us at fundraising@nas.org.uk.
Are the walks wheelchair and buggy accessible?
All walks and ‘base’ venues are wheelchair and buggy accessible. However, if there are parts of the route that we deem to be inaccessible or require support, we will inform you.
Are there reduced rates for families or large group bookings?
We are offering a 20% discount for families of up to two adults and two children. We aren’t offering a group booking but if you are a group of families and can take advantage of the family discount, providing you meet the number of adults and children and add on tickets, this is fine with us!
I want to book a place over the phone instead of online – is this possible?
No, for data protection purposes, we are sadly unable to complete this webform on your behalf. If you are having trouble completing the online form, we'd advise you seek a family member, carer, friend, colleague or allocated support worker to assist you in this process. If you still continue to experience problems, please email fundraising@nas.org.uk
I’m registered, but how do I add new people to my team?
You can either register for them, entering their details and importantly their email address. This will send them an email to allow them to claim and personalise a fundraising page. They can then follow the steps explained under 'How do I join a team on JustGiving?' below on the next question.
Or:
You can ask them to register themselves, create a fundraising page and then follow the steps explained under 'How do I join a team on JustGiving?' below on the next question. If you have selected a 'team name' do pass it to them to use when they register.
I want to take part but live too far away, how can I join in?
We’re really sorry we can't be in lots of cities this year, but we are visiting two new cities for 2024. You can Do your own Spectrum Colour Walk at a location and distance of your choice.
Where can I download a fundraising pack for my event?
All here, including fundraising packs, are available here. If you don’t see what you are looking for, please check back soon.
What are the facilities on the day?
There will be toilets, nearby cafes and we will have a supply of refreshments. We will also provide a quiet room or cordoned area for autistic attendees.
Can I bring my dog?
We will not be allowing dogs on the walk this year as we want to ensure that all attendees are comfortable, and we create an autism-friendly space. Guide and assistance dogs are exempt with prior notice.
Will there be coloured powder such as our Spectrum headband?
You can also order items from the National Autistic Society website shop, such as the Spectrum headband and Autism acceptance pin badge to wear on the day.
Why is there a 'set up a JustGiving page' step on my child registration form - are they expected to fundraise too?
We'd love everyone to get involved with fundraising, especially families. This year, we've partnered with JustGiving to make registering and setting up your fundraising, individually, or as a team, as easy as possible.
If, for any reason, a child who is being registered by someone else cannot fundraise, we recommend you disregard the email with a link to set up and personalise the fundraising page that has been started for you. If this link remains unclaimed it will not be an active page.
Please note, any page used by someone under the age of 18 needs to be run by a parent or guardian on behalf of anyone under 18 as per JustGiving's terms of service policy.
How do I join or create a team on JustGiving?
Once you have registered to this event, log in to your JustGiving page.
You can create a new team or join an existing team by typing your team name into the search box.
Select your team from the list provided. If you can't find your team, try changing the name in the search box.
